Homemade Fruit and Veggie Wash

Homemade Fruit & Veggie Wash

Pesticides, dirt, grime, bugs and/or unwashed hands… all icky, yucky, nasty things that don’t belong on your food when you’re getting ready to eat it.

The fact of the matter is that any of these undesirables could end up on your tomato, apple or even your greens…

I know.  I know.  It seems unbelievable!  Our food should be squeaky clean and ready to eat when we buy it and bring it home, right?

Well, not so much these days.  Even if you buy organic produce from your favorite farmer, you want to make sure that you wash your produce before you eat it because it has traveled from the farm and been touched by many hands.

Never fear, though… that’s why fruit and veggie wash and fruits and vegetables are a match made in Heaven.

While there are definitely some fantastic fruit and veggie washes available at your local health food store or supermarket, why pay the high prices in the store when you can make your own for pennies on the dollar?

Let’s face it, homemade is — simply put —  better.  You get to control what goes into your product, and knowing exactly what you are spraying on something you’re going to consume is really important.

The following are two recipes — one for a fruit and veggie wash spray and one for a fruit and veggie wash soak — that really work great!

The spray is great if you’re going to be doing one or two pieces of fruit and/or veggies, while the soak works best if you are doing a bunch of items at once.

How To Make A Homemade Fruit & Veggie Wash Spray:

You will need:

  • 1 large empty spray bottle
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh organic lemon juice
  • 1 Tablespoon non-aluminium baking soda
  • Filtered or spring water

Directions:

Put the first three ingredients into the spray bottle, fill the remainder of the bottle up with the filtered or spring water and gently mix.
Please be aware of the fact that the mixture may foam up.
Spray on your fruit and/or veggies, then allow to sit for about 5 minutes.
Rinse the fruit and/or veggies under cold water.

To Make A Homemade Fruit & Veggie Wash Soak:

You will need:

  • 1/2 cup apple cider or white vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons sea salt
  • Filtered or spring water

Directions:

Fill a large glass bowl with cold filtered or spring water, then add in the vinegar and salt.
Swirl around with your hand and mix thoroughly.
Place the fruit and/or veggies in the Homemade Fruit & Veggie Wash Soak and allow to sit for 15 minutes.
Rinse the fruit and/or veggies under cold water to remove the soak and dry.

Now that  your fruits and veggies are all clean, you are ready to enjoy your produce!
